Post Office

Rowan had discovered these place names on the Post Office building on Roseberry Avenue. I had never seen them before, so it was a great discovery. A strange mix of places including Neath in south Wales (a bit of a surprise having worked there for a while).

A Bike Shop in Islington

The merge of window, reflection, shop interior added up to a bit of a perfect storm. No image manipulation at all, as shot. Probably one for the connoisseur.

Weekend 1

I had a great weekend in London, visiting Rowan. We did a lot, and I mean a lot, of walking around the city. I am really pleased that Rowan seems to enjoy exploring the great place that is London on foot. She showed me parts of Hackney I had never been to before, so it was educational as well as enjoyable.

This shot was taken in the Canonbury Tavern which used to be our local when I lived in Canonbury Place. To say it has changed would be an understatement; suffice to say that artisan sourdough did not used to be on the menu.

Stream

The snaking dike in fields close to the Pocklington Canal. They are usually cut straight so this is a real surprise.

Family

Then on Sunday we walked with Ro and Pete around the reservoirs at Frewston. A great walk on a lovely day.

Friends

Saturday we went to see friends Jacob and Zan who live in Richmond (North Yorkshire not west London) Great to catch up with them, 8 years since we saw them playing at Danielle's 50th (they are both professional Early Music players).

YOS 5

Reflected Pine

Taken in Morven in January of this year. This might be a bit stark to be a real top ten hit, but it will be interesting to see.

Old Photo

Someone found this photo at Quaker meeting from when there was an exhibition there, about 7 or 8 years ago. I am stood next to one of my Wolds photographs "Screen".

Theatre

Rowan went to see a production at the Almeida Theatre in Islington, that her friend Dee had been involved in. She said it was very impressive.

YOS 4

Reflected Confusion

Another one I am looking forward to showing. I am putting this into the Taster Exhibition which runs a week before Open Studios at the Hospitium in the Museum Gardens.

YOS 3

The Road to Tilberthwaite

Exhibiting an image for the first time allows me to find out which images appeal to the public most. It also lets me work out what size and format works for what image. I am not sure whether to go with a large canvas or print for this one; a decision has to be made.

YOS 2

Bridge Across the Flood
Taken last year in the Duddon valley in the Lake District. There had been a massive thunderstorm and downpour which quickly translated to a river in flood. I was walking through the wood to explore, and wondered how I was going to cross the river and get back to our cottage. Then this sturdy stone bridge appeared and safety was assured.
I have a feeling that this shot might just pass people by and not attract much interest. But you never know, and I would love to be surprised.

YOS

Been busy preparing photographs for York Open Studios that begins in 5 weeks time. Might sound a long time but it goes very quick in my experience.

So here are some of the new shots that I shall be exhibiting for the first time. I always enjoy gauging the reactions that images get. The quality of the image is on factor, but also the size and format of the version I show. As well as that, where I show the picture in the gallery can have a real influence on how it is viewed.

Tarn.

Taken in the Lakes last October.

Thorne Moors 2

Unusually changeable weather last week, which gave up some good brooding skies.

Thorne Moors

Nothing new in this shot; I just love the area so much that it keeps on resonating with me. Taken last week. Apologies.

Curfew

Here is Layla on our last trip to Thorne Moors until August. From March to July dogs have to be on the lead on account of ground nesting birds. It makes perfect sense so I respect the rule. It was a great walk with a pair of cranes flying in full sight with a marsh harrier providing contrast. I will hopefully visit in May without the dog.

Had John, Katie, Edward and Fay round for dinner on Saturday. Good to catch up as usual.

Leeds 3

Like most northern towns and cities Leeds has squares of surprising beauty and grandeur. Often Victorian, sometimes older. This is Queens Square in Leeds, buildings date from the early 19th Century.
