I would not say that this lonely industrial building by the canal in Leeds has been renovated, but it has got a massive new neighbour where there was nothing but rubble and dereliction two years ago.

Daughter

Rowan is back in London after taking her exam last week. Has been good having her here for a couple of weeks. Here is the selfie.

Leeds 1

Next morning at 6am I was taking Rowan across to Leeds for her last finance exam. It seemed to go Ok. Meantime I walked around the city, camera in my pocket. A beautiful day.

Sad Day

Been a busy week. Danielle and I went down to London for Gwen's funeral in Golders Green. Gwen, who was 59 had a heart attack and never recovered. It was a moving but also uplifting occasion somehow. After the service we all walked to the free church in Hampstead Garden Suburb for tea and cake. The book group that Gwen and others including Danielle set up over 25 years ago were all there.

Adapt

High hopes last Monday. Set off early with the dog, promise of sunshine all day, no rain. Headed for Pendle Hill in Lancashire to scope out a walk there. Except, there was thick fog all across the Vale of York, and a lot of stuck traffic. So when I got as far as Harrogate and the sun came out I decided to walk round some lakes just to the west of the town. I am glad I did, it was a great walk on a truly beautiful day. This shot is of the woods that lead down to Fewston reservoir.

So back to 5 years ago, when we went to Australia for a Danielle work trip. It was memorable.

Taken upstairs in our then new room. Rowan 10 years old. Seems a long time ago.

1998

 

Rowan born, family roadtrip from Philadephia to Colorado by way of a lot of family, and places to see including Mount Rushmore.

1988

 

Running the day centre in Islington, just about to move into the policy job that set me on the way to consultancy in another 10 years. The gentleman I am with is Wilfred who moved to Islington from Goa.

Heading back to the present day, 55 years ago. The deflated football courtesy of Bracken our beloved dog, the natty 60's jumper, the carefully tended rose garden. It's all there.
 

1963

60 years ago and this is me with my sister Ro and cousin Gill. 

1973

50 years ago I was at Rossall boarding school in Lancashire. Part of being there involved being in the RAF cadet corps [no choice]. The good news about this was I got to fly a plane, the bad was that we had to march around playing at soldiers. So my friend and I took this shot of the said soldiers in the background, with his fingers indicating what we thought of it all.
 

1983

40 years back and I was walking in the Alps from Tignes in France to San Valentino on the border of Switzerland, Italy and Austria. The next year was The Walk.

1993

30 years ago I visited Derwood and Elizabeth in Arizona, we travelled up to Monument Valley and did the horse thing. It remains one of the best places that I have been to in the world; it totally outshone the Grand Canyon to me.

2003

Twenty years ago I was getting my MBA from the OU in Harrogate. My mother had been due to come but had a fall so could not make it. Rowan managed to wangle a new pair of shoes out of the event, which may account for her look of satisfaction.

2013

Ten years ago, Danielle and I were at a University event in the new STEM building. A building that proudly included humour in its design aesthetic. This mirror was part of that idea.
