Twenty five years ago this area was still being stripped of all vegetation, then the peat plundered for commercial use. That is now long gone, although signs from Fisons are still occasionally found scattered around the moors. It is now a beautiful boggy mess of a place with silver birch responding first to the need for plant regeneration of the degraded land.
