Chris Petit
My favorite film of all time is Radio On by Chris Petit which came out in 1979. After that his films were disapointing, but I have since discovered his books and they are brilliant as well. Psalm Killer is a really disturbing portrait of the troubles in Norn Iron [Northern Ireland] and I have just read Robinson which is weird but great. He's never going to be popular, but it is rare for someone to make great films [well, one great film] and great books.
