In book group we discussed Closely Observed Trains by the Czech writer
Bohumil Hrabal . Half of us [including Danielle and I] really liked it, half were less keen. We also listened to a radio play version [excellent] and a Oscar winning film adaptation from the 60s [terrible]. As usual a really good discussion, and wine.
It is a long way from the Czechslovakia but here is a photo from Albania in 1989 when it was still very much a communist dictatorship. Old men playing chess in the park.
