Big Excitement yesterday when I found a butterfly in the shed, which was dead. Rowan and I got the book out and worked out - with the help of her magnifying glass - that it was not a Meadow Brown which we had seen at Kirltington last week, but a Gatekeeper. We had to spot the two white pupils in its "eyes" on each wing. Great to work it out - a whole new world to me. http://www.butterflygarden.co.uk/plants/2003pages/sed_1847_g.htm .
That moth from a week back, is a Burnet Moth http://www.ukwildflowers.com/Web_pages/zygaena_filipendulae_burnet_moth.htm [thanks Ro]
