Albania

I will be posting a number of photos from slides over the next several months. This one is from Tirane in Albania. I visited Albania in 1989 when it was still Hoxha'd and communist. Several things struck me. It was incredibly peaceful in Tirane, the capital city, because there were no private cars. I saw several pairs of soldiers holding hands, which was strangely reassuring. When told by our guide that "no-one can earn more than twice anyone else" it had a certain appeal. Stalin was not disgraced. A visit now, fifteen years after the end of communism would be interesting and not necessarily uplifting.
